I’m currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Khalil Hanna. Before joining Hanna’s group, I earned my Ph.D. degree in Municipal Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology (China) in 2019. As an environmental engineer with a background in engineering and aquatic chemistry, my primary research interest during Ph.D. was to understand the fate of emerging pollutants in aquatic environments and engineered water treatment processes. Specifically, I focused on the characterization of oxidation treatment processes and the kinetics and mechanism of micropollutants degradation. I paid particular attention to the manganese-based oxidation process and the involvement of in-situ formed manganese species (e.g., Mn(III)) during manganese dioxide and permanganate oxidation. My research now will focus on manganese-mediated redox reactions for environmental remediation. I will work on the role of manganese oxides in carbon stabilization through collaboration with Durham University (https://www.durham.ac.uk/departments/academic/chemistry/ and https://www.durham.ac.uk/departments/academic/engineering/).
